Hello, I am New_Moon, and I would like to welcome you to my humble website. Here I blog about topics pertaining to security and privacy in the digital age. I would like to be forthcoming, I am NOT a security researcher. Security researchers are very intelligent people, talented people, but some of them are not the best at communicating what they're talking about to the layman. I am a communicator by profession, someone who sells people on ideas or products, and I am here to be the bridge that puts the ideas of security researchers into a more easy-to-digest form for the layman. Even though I may not be a security researcher by profession, I make it a point to cite my sources for every claim made in the main articles of the website; if you do not trust me, read my sources directly. However you choose to digest the information from my site, I will not be offended.
To be foreward, I am selling you on an idea when you read my website: if used correctly, the computer can still be your friend in the current year. What I mean by this is that electronics are not your enemy in the digital age, capitalism is your enemy. The degredation of online life is caused mostly by surveilance capitalism, and the centralization of the internet is also caused by capitalism. Even the increasing homogeneity of the internet is caused by capitalism. I am also selling you a solution: decentralization, secure design, and free/open source software. You should not trust me blindly, as all of my articles come through this lense. You may choose to not trust me blindly, and I would say you are smart for doing so, but my hope for this section is that you do trust me (to a certain extent) after this act of transparency.
I do try to keep this site with as little politics as possible. However, privacy and security is interlinked with politics to a high degree. I will try my best to keep things with as little politics as possible, but given the fact that surveilance capitalism and authoritarianism is the present worldwide threat, my content may have the appearance of left-leaning. My personal politics are not what influence this site, rather the goal of keeping users safe and free. The erosion of privacy and security can be present in countries like the US and the EU; but it's also present in countries like China, Cuba, and others. Authoritarianism comes from no particular alignment on the political left to right scale, however surveilance capitalism is a very much right-wing concept. Capitalism is a right wing concept, so therefore so is surveilance capitalism. Where I am located influences this site to a minimal degree, if you choose to reject the content of the site because it is too political, chances are you may be part of the problem.
You may be wondering why I chose neocities. Simply put: anonymity and open source software. Neocities has a backend that is open source and funded mostly from contributers, and asks for no information from me upon sign up. With normal websites, I'd have to basically dox myself to register the domain name, and to host a server I'd have to pay money; doxing myself and paying money to do so is pretty ass. Neocities saves me from these two issues, and even includes a semi-decent hmtl editor to boot. Neocities also gives me more discoverability than I'd have if I ran my own site; Neocities allows users to discover other users, while also handling search indexing on major engines. Overall, Neocities is perfect for what I want this site to be, so I plan on sticking with it until potential enshittification.
Please make good use of my content, I only ask that you credit me and link to my website if you do. Otherwise, please enjoy my website and all content included, all eyes on my content are deeply appreciated :)
